Day-Glo Fitness

This week, I’ve definitely been slacking on my workouts. The fact is, I like running. And while there are other workouts I like, I’m getting bored (and by “getting bored” I mean “totally losing my mind with boredom and frustration”) not being allowed to run.

Side note: For anyone who actually knows me — six months ago, would you ever have thought I would write that last sentence? Me either. But I digress.

And when I get bored, I get lazy.

So today, I was ready to kick my own ass in the gym, even if it meant I was working out indoors on a gorgeous 50-degree day and wasn’t out running in the park. To show my excitement, I put on my favorite workout outfit — my crazy day-glo yellow Nike dri-fit top, and black and white Nike running shorts. No picture can do the neon-ness (neonity?) of the shirt justice, but here was my best try:

(Plus, I think this top makes me look really, really skinny. Which always helps).

And the workout was as good as the outfit — 20 mins bike, 20 mins elliptical, upper body work, core work, and a hard-core session with the foam roller. Best 85 minutes I’ve spent in the gym for a while.

My other fitness-related goal for the day was to buy new running shoes, because I’m hoping I’ll only be out of commission for one more week (pleeeeeeease, Universe, make this happen), and my physical therapist recommended it.

So I headed to The Running Company, where I learned that, as strange as it my sound, I’ve been running in shoes that are TOO stable. I’m a supinator (fancy running talk for “I run on the outsides of my feet”), and I was wearing stability shoes, which actually are meant to protect against over-pronation (FRT for “your ankles collapse inward”). Not sure how that happened, because I went for a proper running shoe fitting and everything, but I’m now the proud owner of a new pair of Brooks Ravenna 2′s, complete with awesome neon turquoise laces:

I definitely felt how much easier they made it to land with my foot properly flat, and I was excited to stay with Brooks shoes because they’re super-light and comfortable. Now, HOW MANY DAYS UNTIL I CAN RUN AGAIN??
